Those who want to save the world face two primary challenges: there are many problems, that need solving and the amount of information and lately, the amount of digital communication, are overwhelming.
I have solved these two problems for myself in a scientific way, which means “for now”.
Most problems, that needs solving, are long term. Looking into them one will see that they have existed for decades, centuries and sometimes millennia.
My father used to say, “a hen will never dig a hole”. Hens dig around the whole day, every day, but merely scratch the surface.
If you want to have an impact, you have to focus.
Choose a topic or two, that are close to your heart, and commit your life to them.
The amount of available information has been overwhelming for decades and search engines and AI solve the problem only partially.
The social media is prone to manipulation.
There is a simple solution –
– go out and meet people.
There is a finite number of people and a finite number of places.
The number of people and places is much smaller, than the amount of information and the avalange of social media posts, many of them auto-generated w/ a good or w/ a bad purpose.
What counts at the end are the people. If the people disappear, all the machines will have no purpose and stop (unless they have have been made to self-maintain and self-reproduce, but even then they will still have no purpose beyond what was put into them).
So, go out and meet people.
Focus is important, becoming an island is mostly not useful.
Most thopics have intersection points w/ other topics.
Find the intersection points of your topics and cooperate w/ those, who have focused on other topics.
This will help both your topics and their topics to advance in a balanced way and will protect both of you from taking extreme positions.
When thinking about cooperations, think broadly. For example one of my focuses is renewable energy and I have a friend, one of whose focuses is empathy. And these subjects do overlap, for one of the hopes for the renewable energy is to steer against the climate change and the climate change will have broad and deep effect on people all over the world. Having empathy for those people adds to the motivation to work hard on renewable energy.
Similarly broad interest in history, art and human nature will help you better understand the world and have a more sound judgement, when it comes to convroversal topics.
